A CASED 14-BORE PERCUSSION SINGLE-BARRELLED SPORTING-GUN, serial no. 541,
for 1862, with replacement period twist-iron 29 3/4in. barrel by another re-using the original breech-block, carved snail, platinum plug, fully scroll engraved top-tang, border and scroll engraved bar-action lock signed 'W.R. PAPE', chequered figured walnut half-stock, iron furniture including hinged patch-box to right of butt and chequered pistol-grip spur to lower tang, swivel eyelets and heavy duty mahogany ramrod with concealed worm in the tip, iron surfaces with some shallow pitting, complete with an earlier walnut storage case, relined and compartmented in burgundy baize for this gun, reproduction trade-label inside lid and external hook closure

Other Notes: This percussion gun was almost certainly produced as a rifle. The Birmingham marks date between 1862-1925
